Applications
Artists who wish to apply in one or more than one category must submit separate applications for each category, along with the processing fees and images required for each category. ZAPP requires a separate and distinct profile for each application.
Images - Artists will be selected separately in each category. Selections will be made based on the five images submitted (four images of the work being proposed in each category of art and one image in each category of the booth display). Images are used to determine style, excellence of craftsmanship, and quality appearance of your merchandising/display. Images should be professionally produced whenever possible. The images that you present will determine whether or not you are selected, so your images must be clear, easy to see, and be good representations of the quality and attractiveness of your work. Since the jury can only judge on what they can see, your success relies largely on the quality of your images. Each type/style of artwork intended for display in each category must be shown in the images presented. For example, to cover the types and styles of a category to be displayed, a photographer may choose to submit one portrait, one landscape, one still life, and one other style of photographic artwork to comprise the four category images. It is recommended that you show only one item in each image. Too many items may cause the image to look cluttered and lose favorable impact on the jury. Images frequently appear more impactful on a black or dark gray background, allowing the image to stand out instead of a glaring white or colored background.
Payment - All Application Fees ($35) are required at time of application and are payable only through Zapplication. Application fees will only be accepted by Credit Card through Zapplication. Once you are accepted and have been formally notified, your
Booth Fees may be paid in two ways: you may pay by Credit Card through Zapplication; or, you may pay booth fees directly to the Festival office via Money Orders, Credit Card, and Check made payable to Tempe Festival of the Arts. CASH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. All money received in the Festival office will be processed immediately, as we cannot accept post-dated payments.

Jury Process - All artists who participate in the Tempe Festival of the Arts must have completed the Festival’s jury process. The jury participates as a blind jury in which they do not know the identity of any artist. The jury views each applicant’s five images sequentially, and then views the applicant’s images all together in one view. The jury then scores each applicant based on concept, workmanship, and presentation. The jury’s scores are averaged and the top scoring entrants are accepted. The jury selects applicants based on a quota for each category, placing some artists on an alternate list if the quota has been exceeded. All artists placed on the alternate list must have participated in the original blind jury process. The Festival will not make exceptions for non-juried artists. Jury members are chosen based upon expertise, experience, and background in the arts. Jury members change for each Festival.
