Erin Curry - Fall 2017

Hey, it's me...Erin! When I was about 5 years old, I was fidgeting and my Mom took out some paper and a pen and told me to draw something.  Fast forward and I'm still drawing and still fidgeting.

I have no formal art training.  I went to college and majored in Organismal Biology hoping to learn from furry, scaled and winged creatures and make the world a better place.  Here's the thing:  I like to eat. And, since the salary I was making to intern at a Zoo was the equivalent of, "You pay us $10 an hour to clean up poo", I decided to give art a more serious try.

My style is unique and meticulous.  I use NanoLiner ink pens to draw onto watercolor paper and wood panels.  Using hard lines and very tiny well placed dots, I create cubist characters that seem to come alive on their surfaces.  While the wood panels have raised collage work that makes you want to touch, the watercolor paper pieces are hand cut and elevated in shadowboxes using needles.  I also have a serious loathing of needles because they're sharp and pointy and I use them to create that cool 3-D effect in my work.  I should buy stock in Band-Aid.  I also put a lot of time into the backgrounds of my pieces and lots of the things I love are included from music, movies, books and other artists better than me.

I want people to see what I create and wonder what went through my noggin at 3am when I made it.  I hope it makes you think and ponder great things or at least smile and chuckle and pat me on the head.  More than anything else, I am grateful to my family, my friends and God above for keeping me going.  I'm also thankful that you gave me some of your time.  Now come talk to me!
