Benefits of Volunteering
Individuals and Groups are welcome as volunteers at the Tempe Festivals of the Arts. Each festival requires about 500 volunteers to help manage on-site functions important to the conduct of the event. Sign up solo to meet new people. Or, sign up with your group to fulfill employers’ and organizations’ volunteer commitments while having fun!
Volunteering is a fun way to see the Festival from a different perspective, meet new people, and promote art in the community. Volunteering is a great way to serve the event and also the greater community, as well as being a source of enjoyment and pride. Meet a variety of people from all walks of life, see what happens behind the scenes and, through your service, help make the event possible.
Become part of a vibrant, skilled volunteer community with opportunities for training and for progressing in volunteer leadership with the Festival. Learn new skill development, enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that you have helped others, and have fun!

Festival volunteers work a variety of three-hour shifts from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily.
All Festival Volunteer jobs are outside at our rain-or-shine event. The site is large, so your ability to navigate the site and willingness to endure all types of weather are important requirements. Every volunteer receives the Official Tempe Festival of the Arts Volunteer T-Shirt, which must be worn while working at the Festival. The Festival will conduct a background check for all volunteers working with children, dealing with merchandise or cash, and for everyone driving golf carts.
Booth sitters help artists by watching over their booths so that they can take needed breaks. Although booth sitters to not handle money or make sales, they are on-duty to provide needed safety oversight while in an artist’s booth, and interact with festival visitors.
Volunteers are the first to meet and greet Arts Festival guests, wearing a smiling face and a friendly attitude. Greeters also distribute Festival Programs and help make our guests feel welcome.
Kids Innovation Station
KIS provides hands-on arts projects for children, where they can make their own masterpieces and take them home. Volunteers help staff activities, organize materials, and manage the KIS site.
Artist Hospitality Center
Hospitality volunteers greet the artists and help manage the private Artists & Sponsors Hospitality Booth where our credentialed participants pick up beverages and snacks.
Registration volunteers assist the Festival’s Director of Artists Relations during check-in for artists, sponsors, and vendors. They assist in distributing Registration Packets which contain credentials and load-in information.
All-Purpose Volunteer Floater
These valuable volunteers are cross-trained to be ready to act as needed in any volunteer role.
Artists Set-Up & Tear-Down
Requiring strength and agility, these volunteers assist artists, sponsors, and vendors as requested in unloading equipment, hauling it to and from storage in vehicles, and help in assembling and dis-assembling canopies, tents, and merchandising display equipment.
Volunteers at Chalk-A-Lot Street assist with site set-up, manage distribution of materials to contestants, assist in management of the public who are viewing murals, and help register contestants on-site.
Volunteers help us keep the site spic-n-span for everyone’s enjoyment. It’s one of the most important jobs on staff, since everyone appreciates a clean and neat environment throughout the venue.

Non-Profit Partners Program – Fall 2014
This event is a non-profit event and we do not allow other non-partners to participate unless there is a mutual benefit to the event and the non-profit.
An example of our non-profit partners is our Volunteer program, where we select up to 3 organizations to provide clean up, booth sitters, soda sales, ambassadors, etc. These groups provide onsite management of their volunteers and are rewarded with a donation to their cause.
If you have an idea or suggestion of a benefit for your organization and the event, we would be interested.
Each organization will have a contract that is unique to their participation. We cannot allow any organizations that do not meet the event mission or goals.
Charitable organizations interested in providing volunteers and submitting applications to receive proceeds, send a written letter including contact information, the purpose of the organization, and use of the proposed funding to the following address:
